Steven Owens

Steve Owens is running for State Representative for the 29th Middlesex District, covering parts of Cambridge and Watertown. He is running to ensure that we have a state government that is taking bold action to reduce the impact of climate change, to solve our transportation crisis and to make sure that every family has access to affordable housing.

For the past twelve years, Steve has been the chair of the Watertown Democratic Town Committee, fighting to get progressive Democrats elected up and down the ballot.  In 2016 he was elected to the Democratic State Committee and pushed the party to make reforms to increase voter participation.

In his professional career, Steve is a transportation consultant, helping public sector clients use data-driven analysis to develop freight transportation plans. He will use his expertise to help tackle the commonwealth’s ongoing transportation crisis. Steve has also served on the Watertown Transportation Task Force and knows how important it is for residents to have good, reliable transit options.

Steve is a lifelong Democrat. Growing up outside of Albany, NY, his mother was a public school teacher and his first political activism was advocating for increased school budgets and progressive school board candidates while still in High School. He attended Brown University in Providence, RI, and earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science and Computer Science. Steve moved to Cambridge in 2001 and now lives in Watertown with his wife Pia and their two sons who attend Watertown public schools.
