Rising Stars

Mass Alliance > Rising Stars

The Rising Stars Program was created specifically to support the diversification of the candidate pool Mass Alliance recruits from for state legislature.  It also was meant to formally support members who were running for local office. The Rising Stars Program has also only been for September primaries and November general elections in odd years and not elections in alternative winter or spring election cycles.

To qualify for the Rising Stars Program one must identify as a person of color, woman, LGBTQ+, a young person (under 35, as defined by YDMA), or as a member of a Mass Alliance board member organization.  The person must also indicate that they are open to running for higher office  some day (at the state or federal level), although they do not have to have a set plan.

The Rising Stars Program supports bench-building efforts statewide.  For that reason, we look for non-controversial races.  The candidate must be running in a race where there is only one (or in the case of at-large, no more than the number of seats being contested) progressive in the race.
