Carey McDonald

Carey McDonald is a 2021 Mass Alliance Rising Star candidate for Malden City Council At-Large.

Carey McDonald is running for Malden City Council At Large to ensure the community he loves is on a strong path coming out of the pandemic. He is a nonprofit executive, active community volunteer, Malden Public Schools parent, and first time candidate. Currently the Executive Vice President of the Unitarian Universalist Association, he started his career as a legislative aide and state education policy analyst. In the past year, he helped lead a volunteer non-partisan grassroots Malden People’s Budget survey. As a Councillor, Carey will focus on getting the basics right and empowering community voices. He will push for bold action on city-wide issues like affordable housing, community health and safety, climate change and green space, and education and economic empowerment. Carey and his spouse Sarah live with their two kids in Malden’s Faulkner neighborhood. He is a member of First Parish church in Malden, and is part of the New Leaders Council Boston chapter.
