Mass Alliance was excited to support Linda Parham for City Council At Large in Worcester. Linda, who has always been deeply in touch with her local community through her ministry, community advocacy, grassroots organizing, public health policy development, and much more, really knows what it means to push forward ideas that support her residents of all backgrounds and identities. She works hard every single day to re-engage in the democratic process those community members who feel least supported by their representatives.
Linda founded and served as the Executive Director of the Skills Group Center Inc., a non-profit, faith-based organization built around a model of social justice-based community health policy development, before founding and heading the non-profit UNITEY CDC, which motivates youth and young adults to revitalize their communities by encouraging community and civic engagement. She currently sits on the Worcester executive board of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and has chaired the Communities of Color Outreach Committee of the Worcester Democratic City Committee. As an ordained minister, Linda has remained dedicated to working with women, people newly arrived in America and Worcester, and folks with disabilities. Linda has also helped to build leaders of the African Diaspora in her local community, provide financial literacy and education to those in need, and to collaborate with other health advocates to create programs to assist those living with disabilities. She knows what it’s like to live in a system that can marginalize or silence parts of one’s identity, as her own past experiences with disability and homelessness have helped construct her understanding of what those in her community need the most from their local government
All and all, the reputation Linda has built for being incredibly effective in her community work will carry with her as she takes her dedication to progressive values to the Worcester City Council. Mass Alliance stood with Linda in her vision, but sadly, she was not elected.
