Katjana’s parents were Europeans who survived the horrors of World War II when they were young. She was adopted in Greece, then lived in Germany, then immigrated to the US when she was four years old. Her core values were formed by her experience as an immigrant and from the examples set by her parents.
She was able to become the first in her family to graduate from college, to earn an MBA, and to work for three decades in international business, startup companies, non-profits, and local government.
After moving to Somerville over 30 years ago, Katjana’s local activism increased as the challenges of affordability, access to jobs, and need for better transportation options became greater. She served as a member and board president of the Somerville Community Corporation working to preserve economic diversity through affordable housing creation and workforce development planning, and to engage youth through the Mediation Program.
In 2013, Katjana was elected to Somerville City Council. She was elected twice to serve as its President, and has worked for inclusive, open government, affordability and jobs, diversity, justice, responsible planning and economic development, and environmental sustainability.
Katjana was endorsed by Mass Alliance in 2011 and 2013.
