Mass Alliance extends its congratulations to Lisa Field on her victory in Tuesday’s special election for the 3rd Bristol State Representative in Taunton and Easton. Lisa’s success was achieved through a robust grassroots campaign, which included the cultivation of a diverse coalition of supporters and thorough deep canvassing of the district. Lisa is committed to championing the interests of working families, immigrant communities, healthcare, climate, and transparency within the State House and we look forward to her partnership in progressive advocacy in the years to come.
Lowell Grassroots Campaign Training
Over the past weekend, Mass Alliance successfully concluded its final campaign training of the year. Twenty aspiring candidates for office and campaign managers convened in Lowell to acquire winning strategies for local elections, including crafting effective messaging, engaging with voters, and getting out the vote.
Representatives from Mass Alliance member organizations Progressive MA, Sierra Club Massachusetts Chapter, and UAW District 9A discussed the value of organizational endorsements and the expected working relationships with elected candidates.
Special gratitude is extended to State Representative Tara Hong of Lowell,Lynn City Councilor Brian LaPierre, and Revere City Councilor Juan Pablo Jaramillo for sharing their insights on effective grassroots campaigning.
This year, Mass Alliance has delivered training to over 70 local leaders engaged in electoral campaigns across various levels, from local school committees to the United States Congress. It gives us hope that, notwithstanding the atrocious federal political environment, progressive advocates within the Commonwealth are addressing challenges by leveraging local governance to preserve democratic values, safeguard vulnerable populations, and promote a progressive agenda for change within the state.

Tom Hendrickson for Agawam City Council
Elected in 2023, Tom Hendrickson has already demonstrated effective leadership. During his brief tenure on the council, he successfully enacted legislation that improved the quality of life for Agawam residents, including investments in public infrastructure, community choice energy initiatives, and the construction of a new high school. Tom actively participates in Mass Alliance’s Progressive Municipal Leaders Network and exhibits a profound dedication to public service, progressive advocacy, and a promising trajectory as a progressive leader in Western Massachusetts.
Over the coming weeks, Mass Alliance will continue meeting with local candidates from across the state and looks forward to announcing our next round of Rising Stars in mid-July. We are continually inspired by the caliber of progressive candidates stepping up to run this year. By supporting these emerging leaders, we are helping to build a strong foundation of progressive elected officials—and a brighter future for local politics—regardless of the challenges we face at the national level.
