Casey Dooley is running to be the State Representative for the 1st Norfolk District, which includes parts of Randolph and her hometown of Quincy.
Casey was born and raised in Quincy, and graduated from North Quincy High School. She learned responsibility and the importance of community from an early age. Raised by a single mother, Casey knows the reality of financial hardship. As a teenager, Casey trained and became a licensed hairdresser, and at the age of 19, was able to purchase her mother’s home. She and her partner are planning to raise their family there.
Casey is a small business owner and a hairstylist by trade, with a specialization in cutting curly hair and teaching clients how to love their curls. In her off hours, she is a tireless advocate for the LGBTQ+ community in the Greater Boston Area, having served as the Chair of Black Pride and Co-Chair of Accessibility for Boston Pride, currently a board member of the Trans Resistance March to be held this June in Boston.
Casey has also been active in supporting foster families, including volunteering to teach new parents how to manage their children’s hair. Through this volunteer work, she has seen the many frustrations of the current foster system in the Commonwealth up close. She realized can do more to improve the foster system from Beacon Hill than she could ever do as a volunteer.
Casey was prompted to run for local office when she learned that our current State Representative voted against gay marriage in 2004. Like many residents in the district, she’s tired of the status quo: major decisions made behind closed doors by political leadership, lifelong community members pushed out of Quincy because they can’t afford to live here, and zero accountability for those in power. She believes that the district, the community, and political participation, should be for everyone, not just those with connections or who can afford it.
